Diagnostics and Repair
There is a lot of talk about the shortage of qualified marine technicians available. Should this make you concerned about the quality of work being performed aboard your vessel?
Well, it is difficult to quantify what a good technician is, but the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) has been working diligently to increase the quality of technicians by providing the industry with a training and certification program. Of the current 24,920 Marine Technicians working, there are approximately 4,500 who have at least one ABYC Certification in a marine discipline. This represents 18% of the workforce. If a technician has achieved certification in at least three disciplines, they earn the title of Master Technician. There are currently less than 300 ABYC Master Technicians. This represents about 1% of the workforce.
Michael Woodring of Vessel Assess is an ABYC Master Technician. In addition, he has a Diploma in Marine Surveying from the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy. This Diploma requires an in-depth working knowledge of Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, and the best methods and materials that should be used in the construction and repair of vessels of all sizes. Ensure the quality, efficiency, dependability, and thoroughness of the diagnostics and repairs performed aboard your vessel by contacting Vessel Assess today.
